The Empress is the card of expansion, and is suggested by the pomegranates on her dress, which represent fertility. She is the Mother of Earth and can represent a person incarnate, Spirit, or one’s desire of motherhood (fatherhood). This is the Venus. The sceptre she holds represents her place in the world and her connectedness to Earth and the Universe. This is also displayed by the 12 stars on her crown, which symbolizes the 12 zodiac signs – her relationship to the planets. She is surrounded by the colour yellow representing Spirit as it comes into the material world and crops representing abundance.
Depending on context and the surrounding cards present, this card may suggest that even though you mean well, perhaps you are mothering others too much. You can’t take responsibility for the actions of other people. This card can also stipulate that perhaps you’re not mothering yourself well enough. To love unconditionally is to love yourself first, so how are you doing this? Are you giving yourself what you need? Do you even know what it is that you need?
The Empress is the definition of fertility and represents your ability to grow any idea into fruition. Either you’ve already started nurturing your ideas and are currently manifesting your goals or you aren’t doing enough, and the Universe is reminding you to get on with it!
Make no mistake by misjudging her nurturing character as women mimic the creative forces of the Universe. Mother nature can be cruel and she won’t hesitate to destroy something in order for something better to exist.
